CGS in Higher Education - Sandi Boucher

CGS in Higher Education

You are an administrator or faculty member in a Canadian college or university (especially in Ontario).  You may or may not be facing restrictions by your provincial government on the number of foreign students you can enrol in a given year.  With student numbers dropping, programs are being cancelled.  You may even be worried about your future employment.

Indigenous students are a viable option for colleges and universities.  The Indigenous population is GROWING and it is a young population.  The institutions of higher learning that master Indigenous engagement, recruitment and retention will see their numbers increase but desire is not enough.  Nuances and therefore, the potential for missteps exist at every stage.

  1. Initial engagement with community or Indigenous youth – Who are you sending?  Probably NOT the right person.
  2. Enrolment
  3. First day
  4. First semester
  5. The potential to return for Year Two.

This session is the first in the CGS (Creating Good Soil) series of seminars and workshops

Learn what YOU can do to make your institute the GO TO educational facility for Indigenous students …. or don’t.  The choice is yours.
