A Hang with My Mom

I am awake, I am alive, and this morning, I got to hang with my mom …

She joined me for my workout (#30 in 37 days, I might add) as she often does. You see, with my birthday approaching, I often think of Mom at this age. I would have been 18 when she turned 55, just graduating high school (for comparison, my daughter is 33 and the Mom of two. Mom started later than me obviously).

At this age, Mom was overweight and not just a little. High blood pressure had hounded her for decades. Diabetes hadn’t yet knocked on her door. She worked at the mill (hard physical labour) and worked at home. But poverty, bad habits, and lack of knowledge meant poor food choices and the resulting weight.

Fast forward to today. Mom would be so damn proud of me! No doubt she would giggle at the thought of me pushing weights or hitting the treadmill, but the giggle would come with a shine in her eyes. The same shine I witnessed each time I brought an “A” home or achieved yet another goal.

Yes, Mom wanted better for us or the same, depending on the topic. When it came to relationships, she wanted each of us to find the one, someone amazing like the man she found in my Dad. My eldest did. My next older brother has. My youngest bro … a complicated story.

And me?

Well, I’m just not ready yet.

“All in good time”, my Mom would say, and I have no doubt that when I am finally all that I am meant to be, he will materialize … or he won’t. That’s up to Creator. For now, I have work to do and if he’s out there, well then, so does he.

The journey continues but this woman is traveling on with a HUGE smile on her face. My Mom is proud. Just don’t get much better than that!

Try it … for your Mom or in spite of her.

Do it! Do better, do more. Take the best, leave the rest.

I love you!
HUGSSSSSSSS
